Preliminary ideas for Kallang River’s facelift are now showcased at the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) Centre at Maxwell Road, but these are “conceptual and aspirational in nature”, and the authorities want to hear from the public over the next year or so.
The Kallang River winds through the highest amount of housing estates here, and is primed for dramatic changes in the next decade or more, with new waterfront homes, community sports or activity spots and bike paths linking to the city center among the transformational ideas.
With plans by the Government for multiple areas along the 10km Kallang River, it will provide greater convenience for people with open spaces to enjoy for exercise and social activities. The transformation will also see an enhanced connectivity with a continuous path from Lower Peirce Reservoir to Gardens by the Bay and the Central Business District.
